The celebrated thespian, known for his unwavering patriotic zeal on celluloid, succumbed to age-related health issues, according to Dr Santosh Shetty of Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital, where he had been admitted.

His son, Kunal Goswami, confirmed to ANI news agency that Kumar had been grappling with health complications for quite some time. His passing marks the end of a chapter in Bollywood’s golden history, leaving behind a legacy that has left an indelible mark on Indian cinema.

Born as Harikrishan Goswami in 1937 in Punjab, Kumar made a name for himself in the Hindi film industry with films such as Shaheed, Roti Kapada Aur Makaan, and Kranti. His films, infused with patriotic fervour, struck a deep chord with audiences, making him a household name. He was widely admired for his ability to weave nationalist themes into compelling narratives, ensuring that his work resonated with generations of Indians.

His contribution to cinema did not go unnoticed. Over the years, Kumar amassed numerous accolades, including the prestigious Padma Shri, India’s fourth-highest civilian honour. As news of his passing spread, social media platforms were flooded with tributes from admirers and colleagues alike. Filmmaker Ashoke Pandit echoed the sentiments of many, lamenting the loss as a major blow to the film industry. “A great loss to the industry,” he remarked, adding that the entire fraternity would dearly miss Kumar’s presence.

With his passing, Bollywood has lost a luminary whose contributions to cinema remain unparalleled.
