“I am most alive when I am on stage,” she said in her latest Facebook update. Who? Well, I am talking about Antara Nandy for whom many of us wait eagerly to pops-up in the feed. This young lady sings with great passion and has her own unique way of presentation which has stolen the hearts of many from young to old. In fact, she has 1.3 million followers on Facebook.
However, music, for this young lady is not a matter of recent interest. Antara trained under Ustad Rashid Khan since the tender age of four. In fact, I am sure you will agree with me when I say that her talim in Indian classical music makes her music richer and remains prominent in all her renditions. Besides classical, I could also identify a strong influence of folk tunes in her presentations. This, I feel she may have acquired from her stay in Assam Sivasagar where she was born on 11th December 1999.
She performed in various school programs and cultural events as a child, but it was in the year 2009, when she was only 10, that she got her first television debut in Sa Re Ga Ma Pa L’il Champs. After that, there was no looking back for Antara. In 2015 she lent her voice to the Assamese song Nixati Joto Ronge from the film Khel. Later in 2022, she sang Alaikadal, a Tamil song for the film Ponniyin Selvan Part 1, and subsequently, she sang the same song in Hindi, Kannada, and Telegu.
Her achievements were growing with each passing day, but Antara was restless. She had her own dream, a dream to sing for the Bengali Industry. The long wait came to an end on the 14th of December when her first Bengali original ‘Chandi Raate’ was released by JSE Music on their official music channel in You Tube. This Bengali original was composed by Nilanjn Ghosh and has a unique soundscape. The video features Antara Nandy herself along with Amrita Halder and Ricky Tewary. Why don’t you see it yourself?
Recently during an interaction, Antara said “Working in the Bengali industry has been a dream for me. ‘Chandni Raate’ hasn’t just made that dream come true but it helped me discover a new side of me as an artist.”
Jonai Singh the Creative Director said after the launch “We are thrilled to publish Antara’s 1st Bengali Original Song; a singer who has also recorded for A. R. Rahman. It is indeed a privilege to be a small part of her musical journey. Our thanks to Nilanjan for bringing such a stand-out composition our way. The music video is sensual and romantic just like a moonlit night. We are hopeful that listeners will welcome this creation,”
“I am eternally grateful to Jonai di for this opportunity, to Nilanjn da for making this phenomenal song and for being super supportive throughout the process, to the entire crew for putting together a stunning video, to Anupam da for making me look my best! I can wait for everybody to hear this song,” added Antara.
Yes Antara, we will surely listen to the song. You keep bringing peace and happiness to us with your fantastic talent.
