When a die-hard Sourav Ganguly fan finds himself cancelling a long-awaited date to attend an event with the cricket legend, chaos ensues. Discover how cricket, love, and a bit of coincidence collide in this witty tale of fandom and relationship diplomacy.

Well, it seems that Sourav Ganguly has well and truly bowled a googly into my weekend plans with Sam.

So, here’s the situation: I had a date with Sam on the 17th—yes, this Saturday. It’s been on the calendar for ages, and we were both looking forward to it. But now, thanks to Mr. Ganguly, it’s gone up in smoke. Allow me to elaborate.

Now, I haven’t been much for cricket since Ganguly hung up his boots. To say I’m a fan of the bloke would be a bit of an understatement. So when I caught wind that he’d be spinning the yarn of his life on the 17th at the Biswa Bangla Convention Centre, I rang up Sam and, with much trepidation, cancelled our date. Her reaction? Well, let’s just say she was less of a kitten and more of a Royal Bengal Tigress. Still, the chance to hear Sourav Ganguly tell his story was worth risking life and limb.

But hold your horses! Before you start feeling sorry for me, let me share a message I received from my mate Sudipto. Fair warning: if you read it, you might find yourself cancelling a few dates and appointments as well.

INNOVERV is partnering with cricketing legend Sourav Ganguly for a special event in Kolkata on 17 August 2024 at the Biswa Bangla Convention Centre, kicking off at 9 in the morning. These industry mavericks previously teamed up with Ganguly at a similar shindig at Lord’s in London.”

Intrigued, I picked up the phone and gave Sudipto a bell.

“Alright, mate, cheers for the heads-up,” I said.

“So, are you in?” he asked.

“Wouldn’t miss it for the world! But tell me more about INNOVERV. What’s their game?” I asked.

“INNOVERV’s a consultancy that’s shaking things up in the tech and AI space. They’re a bit of a dark horse, but they’ve made a name for themselves pretty sharpish with their blend of cutting-edge advice and personal service.”

“Go on…” I said, knowing full well there was more to come.

“Well, their team is a who’s who of the tech world—top brass who’ve jumped ship from places like PwC, IBM, and Accenture. They’ve stormed the market in less than a year since their launch.”

“Interesting. And what’s this about their partnership with Ganguly?”

“Oh yes, their collaboration with Ganguly at Lord’s earlier this year was a smash hit. Over 30 bigwigs from the business world and INNOVERV’s top clients were there. Ganguly was in top form, sharing leadership insights and tales from his cricketing days that no one had heard before. The highlights went viral, and people have been clamouring for more ever since.”

“So that’s why they’re bringing the show to Kolkata—makes sense.”

“Exactly. For INNOVERV, teaming up with Ganguly isn’t just about business; it’s a meeting of minds. Ganguly’s an innovator, just like INNOVERV. They’re both about taking on the big boys and coming out on top.”

“Spot on. So, they’re based in Kolkata?”

“Yep, it’s their Indian HQ.”

“Well, Sudipto, I’d love to chat more, but I’ve got Sam on the other line. Better not keep her waiting.” I said, as I hastily switched calls.

“Hello,” I said, trying to sound more confident than I felt.

“Listen, since you’re ditching our date on Saturday, I was thinking I might join you to see Sourav Ganguly…”

And there you have it—crisis averted. As they say, all’s well that ends well!
