Nbarni Das's Poetry

Nabarni Das’s poetry explores a devotion so visceral it transcends physical pain and literary tradition. By intertwining celestial imagery with raw, sacrificial longing, Das reimagines love not just as a sentiment, but as a life-sustaining, defiant force.

Your Name

Etchings and burns, none of it hurts

I find you in my arms, warmth so close.

“I love you” , but;

truthfully, you are heaven

and I continually die for you.

You are tears and I weep for you.

You are pain, and I bleed for you.

You are the moon and I, the sun, find you

even if it is for a split second in twilight.

I am skin and bone knitted together for you,

and if I were rotting from within,

the glint of your eyes would cure me.

You sweeten the poisoned oxygen,

I can breathe, I can breathe.

Flora fills my lungs and I know,

I know now what has been penned down,

I know now what caused the wars.

I love you.

With you I learn the most beautiful poetry—

it was only ever your name.

I’d rip it open and as I lay dying,

for one last time, I would tell you

I love you beyond Poesy’s arms.

The greatest of the writers would not dare,

to attempt capturing the essence of you,

and if they so tried

failure would follow behind.

But I have dared to try

I have dared to love

you.
