With the Karnataka elections around the corner, the politicians are back with their age-old practice of blame game. Each of them is busy finding faults in the other leaving the real issues untouched. This news is available in almost all the news reports. But what you may not know is some significant events which occurred on this day. So I bring to you the 24th April history.
Troy
The movie Troy, in which Brad Pitt portrayed Achilles, is likely familiar to many of you. Here are some facts about the incident of Tory on the 24th of April history 1184 BC. The story of the Trojan War, which culminated in the Greeks entering Troy using the Trojan Horse, is one of the most well-known tales of ancient history. According to tradition, on April 24th, 1184 BC, the Greeks were finally able to breach the walls of Troy after ten years of siege by using a clever ruse.
Legend has it that the Greek army, unable to defeat the Trojans by force, came up with a plan to build a giant wooden horse as a gift for the Trojans, and then hide a group of soldiers inside it. The Trojans, seeing the horse as a symbol of peace and victory, brought it inside the city walls, unaware of the danger that lay within.
Under the cover of the night, the Greek soldiers emerged from the horse and opened the gates of Troy, allowing the rest of the Greek army to enter the city and conquer it. This event marked the end of the Trojan War and the beginning of a new era in Greek history.
While the historical accuracy of this event is debated among scholars, the story of the Trojan Horse remains a powerful symbol of deception and cunning strategy. It has inspired countless works of literature, art, and film, and continues to capture the imagination of people around the world.
Around the world on a boat
The second significant event of April 24th history takes us to the year, 1895. The Canadian-American adventurer Joshua Slocum set out on an ambitious solo around-the-world voyage aboard his 11.2-meter oyster sloop named “Spray.” Slocum was an experienced sailor and had previously sailed across the Atlantic and around South America’s treacherous Cape Horn. However, this new journey was an even more daring undertaking, as he would be circumnavigating the entire globe alone.
Despite the daunting challenge, Slocum was determined to accomplish this feat and set off from Boston, Massachusetts, towards the open sea. Over the next three years, he sailed across the Atlantic, through the Strait of Magellan, and into the Pacific Ocean, stopping at various ports along the way to replenish his supplies and make necessary repairs.
Slocum’s voyage was not without its challenges and dangers. He faced stormy seas, treacherous currents, and even pirates during his journey. However, he persevered, using his navigational skills and seamanship to navigate the often-unpredictable waters.
Finally, on June 27, 1898, Slocum arrived back in Massachusetts, completing his epic journey around the world. His accomplishment made him a celebrated figure in the world of sailing, and he became the first person to ever complete a solo circumnavigation of the globe.
Today, Slocum’s voyage remains an inspiration to sailors and adventurers around the world, and his legacy continues to be celebrated for his courage, determination, and pioneering spirit.
