My Trek to Moon
Ayantik, a student of Class V of an English medium…
The narrator Ayantik Hazra was once gazing at the moon from his rooftop when he apparently fell into a spell. He was kind of abducted and then ….
One day I was looking at the moon from the rooftop; the dull, void white light almost repelled me. Still, I fixed my gaze on it.
Shortly after, I noticed some uncanny movements on the surface of the white gold disc. I became curious; with renewed attention, I engaged my stare to understand what could be happening far there.
Something was active there as I could distinctly notice movements of shadowy stuff. I was straining my eyes more and more and I felt as if I were very close to the moon.
Suddenly, there was an explosion and everything became absolutely white around me and I fell unconscious.
When I regained sense, I was inside a kind of walled structure, might be a room even. Gradually I realised I was apparently aboard a spaceship and from the window, I could see passing stars!
I managed to get up and began looking for some exit to explore the craft. But no success; I could only feel I was being watched.
I felt like shouting; as I shouted hard, there was little response. In sheer anger, I scaled a window-like structure and broke a camera.
Soon, a figure appeared out of nowhere and stood in front of me. His name, it somehow struck me, was Occulus.
And lo, a faint light beeping on his head, read exactly the same – Occulus. It must be their technology, I thought, to reveal their names like that.
The figure came close to me and said, “Hey, I know who you are; would you like to accompany me for a space-walk?”
My courage and fear were racing so fast together that I didn’t know what to say. I could only faintly recall one chapter from my GK book.
And sharp I shot a question: “Have you seen the Big Bang?” “I was the son of Proserpine, our Goddess presiding in the Moon. She made us see everything,” came the reply.
I was bit puzzled. “But then why did you bring me here?” my voice was pretty rude, “I haven’t done any harm to you or your mother.”
“No, no, that’s not the issue,” Occulus sounded quite grave, “my mother has some information about your country and it could be dangerous.”
I became curious and pressed him to proceed. “There’ll be earthquake deep under the sea and ocean will leap up to devour vast coastal areas in your country,” Occulus warned.
I shrank in fear and asked him “When it’s going to happen?” “Very soon; it’s your job to warn your people.” With this, he gave me a push and I began floating as if in a dark dimension.
When I opened my eyes, I could see I was back on the rooftop. I lay there, amazed and speechless in awe and wonder.
“Adri, how long would you spend idle hours atop there?” It must be dad, pretty upset over me. I rushed down the stairs and narrated everything that happened.
Instead of scolding, he cheered me up and asked me to get his laptop. He sent a mail to ISRO, detailing my experience and I believe it helped a lot.
One question keeps haunting me till this day and that is – how Occulus and me communicated with each other!
