Her musical journey, which commenced in her childhood, has taken her from rendering ghazal classics to advocating for social causes. Now, with her latest endeavor, she is turning her attention to the golden melodies of retro Bollywood songs, celebrating the iconic creators who shaped the Indian music landscape.

Shahana Shome, known for her renditions of classics like “Mohabbat karne waale kam na honge” and “Yun Sajaa Chand,” and her advocacy for social causes like “Save the Girl child” and “Education for the underprivileged”, has launched a new series on her official YouTube Channel – ‘Shahana’s Music’. Titled ‘Old But Gold,’ this series is a heartfelt tribute to the evergreen Bollywood songs that have stood the test of time.

In her latest offering, ‘Kahin Door Jab Din Dhal Jaye,’ Shahana pays homage to the legendary duo of Salil Chowdhury and Mukesh. The song, released to commemorate Salil Chowdhury’s birthday which was on November 19th, marks the beginning of the maestro’s birth centenary year. Salil Chowdhury, a maestro among music composers, has left an indelible mark on the music industry, and Shahana’s rendition stands as a testament to the enduring magic of his compositions.

Living in an age where information is at their fingertips, Generation Z is often associated with eclectic tastes. However, Shahana Shome stands out as an artist with a deep appreciation for the rich tapestry of Indian musical heritage. Her ‘Old But Gold’ series is more than just a stroll down memory lane; it is a genuine acknowledgment of the artistic brilliance that shaped Bollywood music over decades in the last century.

The series explores the soulful melodies of iconic voices such as Lata Mangeshkar, Jaydev, Salil Chowdhury, Mukesh, Hemant Kumar, and Mohammad Rafi, to the vibrant energy of Kishore Kumar, Asha Bhosle, R.D Burman, and many more. In an era flooded with remixes and remakes, Shahana’s approach is refreshingly different. Rather than reinventing these classics, she seeks to pay homage to the original compositions that defined the golden era of music in India.
