Manoj Mohammed Visits Epic Public School

Epic Public School in Cooch Behar was abuzz with excitement as Hyderabad FC footballer Manoj Mohammed visited students, sharing stories from his East Bengal days and inspiring young athletes. A memorable day filled with football, laughter, and encouragement for holistic development.
Well, it wasn’t just any other day at Epic Public School in Cooch Behar—it was a right corker! You could feel the buzz in the air from the get-go, as wide-eyed students queued up faster than you could say “offside,” all abuzz about the special guest heading their way. And who might that be? None other than the dashing defender-turned-left-back, Manoj Mohammed of Hyderabad FC fame.
Now, Manoj’s not just any lad kicking a ball about—he’s the real deal. A proper grafter, Manoj first laced up his boots at the East Bengal F.C. youth system, cutting his teeth at their North Bengal academy in Rajganj, Jalpaiguri. He didn’t hang about there long though, as Ranjan Chowdhury, the bigwig Technical Director down at the Kolkata HQ, whisked him off to the main academy faster than a tea kettle boils.
Before long, Manoj had the armband as captain of the U18 squad, leading his team all the way to the final of the 2016–17 I-League U18. They narrowly missed out on lifting the trophy, but no one could say they didn’t give it a proper go. Not one to rest on his laurels, Manoj got his big break in 2018 when Alejandro Menéndez, head coach of East Bengal, promoted him to the senior team—and gave him a shiny new role at left back to boot.
Fast forward to 27 October 2018, and our lad made his professional debut against NEROCA FC. Not bad for a boy who once trained on the muddy fields of North Bengal, eh?
So, when Manoj rocked up at Epic Public School, the students were chuffed to bits. Cameras flashed, cheers erupted, and there was more excitement than a penalty shootout at Wembley. Manoj didn’t just pose for photos and sign a few autographs—oh no—he spent quality time with the pupils, answered questions, dished out tips, and even had a kickabout or two.
In a heartfelt post on social media, Manoj wrote:
“I had a wonderful time with Biswajit Jha dada at Cooch Behar. I was fascinated to see his school—Epic Public School—and his free school and football academy at Mendabari. Interacted with the students and budding footballers. I always consider Biswajit da as my mentor and well-wisher. I wish him all the best for his selfless work. We spent a great time with Zico, Biswajit da’s son, who is also a budding footballer and a great fan of the game. Thank you Boudi for the hospitality.”
Now, if that doesn’t warm the cockles of your heart, I don’t know what will.
Biswajit Jha, the Director of the school (and clearly a top bloke), told East India Story,
“We always encourage our students in sports besides their regular academics. It is important for the development of a child. I personally thank Manoj Mahammad for taking out time and spending the day with our students.”
Dr Sanjuka Saha , Principal of Epic Public School also chimed in, beaming with pride,
“Our students were thrilled to meet Manoj Mahammad. Our school encourages all-round development and sports is an important part in development of a child.”
All said and done, it was the sort of day you want to bottle and save for a rainy one. A day where dreams felt that little bit closer, boots felt a bit lighter, and the beautiful game reminded us all why it’s more than just a game—it’s a way of life.
Fancy that, eh? Not bad, not bad at all.
