Kolkata Metro Introduces Multiple Ticket facility in App

Kolkata Metro says goodbye to long queues and complicated logins—now group travel is seamless, smart, and stress-free in the Metro Ride Kolkata app.
Kolkata Metro has taken another leap into the digital age, and this time, it’s all about making group travel a doddle! Gone are the days of fumbling around at ticket counters or awkwardly coordinating separate purchases – now, passengers can buy multiple QR code tickets in one go using the ‘Metro Ride Kolkata’ app. Launched on Thursday, this new feature is set to make commuting with friends, family, or that one colleague who always forgets their wallet a breeze.
Previously, the QR-coded paper tickets available at booking counters offered this convenience, but now, tech-savvy travellers can purchase them straight from their smartphones before even setting foot in a station. Once the digital ticket lands in their mobile wallet, the lead passenger can waltz into the metro with their entourage in tow, scanning their way through the automated gates like a modern-day pied piper.
Strength in Numbers – But Not Too Many!
There is, of course, a cap on how many people can piggyback on a single QR code – four, to be exact. But that’s still enough for a cosy commute or a last-minute group outing. However, there’s a slight catch: the person who buys the tickets is responsible for scanning everyone through. So, if you’ve got a mate with commitment issues, best not leave them in charge. Each passenger must go through the gate one by one, with the ticket-holder bringing up the rear to scan the code for the final time before stepping through.
For now, there’s even a test-run option that allows users to buy and send QR-coded tickets to their companions. The only caveat? Everyone must travel together. So, if your friend fancies a detour for a cup of cha and a quick natter, they’ll have to think twice before holding up the whole group.
Pin It Down – A Smarter Way to Log In
In another nifty update, Kolkata Metro has bid farewell to the dreaded alphanumeric passwords that everyone forgets the moment they set them. Instead, new users will now get a four-digit PIN, much like banking apps. Old-school commuters still clinging to their password-protected logins can switch to the new system if they fancy a bit of modern convenience.
Metro officials assure us that these updates will make the digital experience smoother, less stressful, and, dare we say it, even a bit fun. So, whether you’re travelling solo or leading your own little metro expedition, the new system is here to make your ride smarter, quicker, and just that little bit more seamless.
Now, if only they could sort out that rush-hour squash!
