Katwa Horro: Another case of Child Molestation
A devoted foodie with keen interest in wild life, music,…
An urgent call to action as yet another case of child sexual abuse emerges, with a three-year-old victim lured by a neighbour In Katwa.
Well, here we are again, folks. Just when you thought the R G Kar incident was enough to boil your blood, along comes another ghastly tale of human depravity. This time, the victim is only three years old. Yes, you read that right—three. Let’s cut straight to the chase, shall we? A so-called ‘neighbourly’ elderly chap in the peaceful town of Katwa, East Burdwan, allegedly lured the toddler into his home with the promise of biscuits. Now, if you’re anything like me, the mention of a kindly old gent and biscuits brings up images of tea parties and harmless chitchat. But what unfolded was a nightmare that no amount of biscuits—or any other bribery—could justify.
According to the family, this despicable excuse for a human being went ahead and violated the poor child, leaving not only emotional but physical scars. The mother in Katwa, who likely had no reason to suspect that her neighbour was anything other than a harmless pensioner, found her daughter crying after returning from the man’s house. Upon checking, she discovered something no parent should ever have to: bloodstains and evidence of abuse. And it didn’t stop there. The brave folks in the area didn’t wait around for the law to lumber in, oh no. They promptly surrounded the man, ensuring he couldn’t slither away before the police got involved.
Now, here’s where the stiff upper lip truly comes under strain. How many more of these horrifying stories do we have to hear before something changes? We’ve seen the public outraged before—goodness knows, social media will be flooded with hashtags and performative sympathy. But what next? The headlines will move on, the outrage will dwindle, and we’ll be back to reading about the next atrocity soon enough.
And what of the legal system? Well, they’ve invoked the POCSO Act, which should be a given at this point. But honestly, it’s hard to muster faith in a system that’s seemingly reactive rather than preventive. A little more proactive policing, perhaps? Maybe stronger sentencing for those convicted of such unspeakable acts?
We can’t keep clutching our pearls and gasping when such incidents surface. It’s high time we stopped letting these incidents fade into oblivion after the media cycle chews through them. Sure, the old adage of “justice will be served” gets thrown around, but let’s be frank—too often, it’s cold, delayed, and inadequate.
So, while the Katwa police do their job and the wheels of justice grind on (slowly, as ever), what are we, as a society, doing? We can’t just stand here, wringing our hands. Perhaps it’s time for a serious overhaul in how we protect our children and deal with predators like this biscuit-wielding monster.
Until then, the headlines will keep coming, and we’ll keep shaking our heads. But really, what will it take for this madness to stop?
