Junior doctors who fell ill during a hunger strike are slowly recovering, with six still in hospital care. Some remain in ICU, while others show signs of improvement as they continue their journey to full recovery.

Slowly but surely, the junior doctors who fell ill during their hunger strike are recovering. At present, six of them are under medical care in hospital, with some still being monitored in the ICU or CCU. A few, whose conditions have improved, are even being considered for transfer to general wards. However, complete recovery for doctors like Anustup and Pulastya will take a bit more time.

Pulastya Acharya, a junior doctor at NRS Medical College, became ill last Sunday after enduring the prolonged hunger strike. He was admitted to the hospital with abdominal pain and bouts of vomiting. A five-member medical team was swiftly assembled to oversee his treatment. By Wednesday, there was a noticeable improvement in his condition, though he remains weak. Hospital sources have shared that he is still experiencing intermittent fevers and is being administered saline. His blood and urine are being tested, and he is still grappling with dehydration, which will require more time to resolve fully.

Meanwhile, Anustup Mukherjee, who is being treated in the CCU at Kolkata Medical College, had a rather dramatic turn of events. He collapsed on the hunger strike stage in Dharmatala last Saturday night and was promptly admitted to hospital. There was initial concern when doctors noticed his stool was black in colour, a worrying sign of potential internal bleeding. Additionally, Anustup refused to eat any solid food during his treatment, only exacerbating the situation. However, by Wednesday, his health had significantly improved. According to hospital sources, he is now being fed orally, and the concerning stool discolouration has subsided.
