HS Results (Assam) : Girls Lead the Charge

For the second year running, Assam’s Science stream students have topped the Higher Secondary (HS) examinations, with girls outperforming boys across all streams. The ASSEB also clocked major milestones, including its fastest result declaration ever.
In what’s beginning to look less like a trend and more like a well-rehearsed encore, students from the Science stream in Assam have once again bagged the lion’s share of glory in the Higher Secondary (HS) examinations, results of which came out sharp at 9 am on Wednesday — giving nervous parents and students alike a proper reason to spill their morning tea.
With a rather dashing 84.88% pass rate, Science students strutted ahead of their Arts and Commerce peers like the teacher’s pet on a mission. Out of 56,909 boffins-in-the-making, 48,309 have passed with flying colours (and hopefully a bit less caffeine than last year). Of those, 25,827 secured a coveted First Division — the academic equivalent of walking on water — while 19,286 cruised into Second, and a still respectable 3,196 managed to scrape into Third, likely with a “phew” and a prayer.
As has become custom, the girls have outdone the boys — again — with a pass percentage of 85.54% compared to the lads’ 84.39%. Somewhere, a proud mum is polishing a trophy shelf, while dad quietly deletes a “Boys are better at Science” Facebook post.
The Commerce stream followed suit, with a respectable 82.18% pass rate. Of the 17,746 money-minded young minds, 14,584 passed. First Division was snatched up by 6,519 students, Second by 5,760, and Third by 2,305. And yes, the girls pinched the limelight here too, with 82.40% vs the boys’ 82.08%. Not a massive difference, but enough to cause a few bruised male egos and the odd “next time, beta” from well-meaning uncles.
Now, the Arts stream — often unfairly pigeonholed as the land of poets and painters — put on a show of its own, clocking a solid 81.03% pass rate. A whopping 2,26,756 students appeared, and 1,84,745 passed. If you’re trying to visualise those numbers, just imagine all of Guwahati turning up for an exam and then some. First Division was achieved by 49,577, with Second and Third going to 80,650 and 53,518 respectively. Once again, girls were off to the races, with 82.95% passing compared to the chaps’ 78.42% — a margin wide enough to park a school bus in.
The 2025 HS results also saw a couple of firsts that had the Assam State School Education Board (ASSEB) giving itself a well-earned pat on the back. “This is the first time we’ve declared results in April — just 44 days after the last exam ended,” said ASSEB Secretary Naranarayan Nath, presumably while juggling spreadsheets and celebratory Til Pitha. “And the number of candidates crossed the 3 lakh mark for the first time too.”
All this under the newly christened ASSEB banner, mind you — formerly the AHSEC, now with a fresher logo and, one hopes, stronger coffee. “We’re grateful to everyone — students, teachers, evaluators — for making this transition smoother than a classroom chalkboard,” added Nath.
In sum, it’s been a cracking year for Assam’s young scholars. Science is still top of the charts, girls are leading the academic revolution, and the ASSEB is moving faster than most government bodies dare dream. So here’s raising a cup of milky chai to the Class of 2025 — may your futures be bright, your relatives slightly less nosy, and your report cards eternally laminated.
