Sourav Ganguly Makes A Grand Return To Television
A devoted foodie with keen interest in wild life, music,…
Sourav Ganguly makes a grand return to television with Star Jalsha in a ₹125 crore deal, set to host Bigg Boss Bangla and a new quiz show from July 2026. Production begins July 2025.
Well, butter my crumpet and call it a googly—Sourav Ganguly, the Prince of Kolkata himself, is about to swap the pitch for prime time as he pads up for a dazzling comeback on the telly. In what can only be described as a corker of a deal, Ganguly has inked a whopping ₹125 crore partnership with Star Jalsha for not one, but two brand spanking new shows—Bigg Boss Bangla and a quiz show that’s still under wraps, but already has quiz buffs and telly addicts foaming at the mouth.
This four-year innings, set to begin in July 2026, is nothing short of a telly coup. Production gets underway in early July 2025, with camera crews, choreographers, and chai breaks galore. Bigg Boss Bangla will be leading the charge—because who doesn’t love a bit of drama, a dash of scandal, and a whole lot of people shouting over one another in a confined space?
In his trademark composed-but-dashing style, Mr. Ganguly—former Indian cricket captain, eternal heart-throb of Eden Gardens, and all-around gentleman—shared,
“Television has always given me a special way to connect with people, and it gives me great pleasure to associate with Star Jalsha as we begin a new chapter of storytelling through innovative non-fiction programming. I’m thrilled to be hosting two exciting shows that celebrate both entertainment and intellect. I’ve always believed in the power of connecting with audiences beyond the cricket field, and this collaboration allows me to do just that—by exploring fresh formats and real stories that inspire and engage. It’s a new innings, and I’m ready to play it with the same passion I brought to the game.”
Well, if that doesn’t bring a lump to the throat and a tear to the eye, you might want to check if your telly still works.
Star Jalsha, known for sprinkling a bit of stardust over regional programming, seems to be pulling out all the stops with this move. By roping in Dada, they’re not just bringing in a host—they’re bringing in a phenomenon. Expect a mix of the charmingly chaotic and intellectually stimulating. One minute you’re watching a contestant have a meltdown over someone hiding the kitchen spices, the next you’re watching Ganguly quiz someone about Rabindranath Tagore.
Fans are already chuffed to bits. Twitter’s aflutter, the tea stalls are buzzing, and aunties across Bengal are circling dates on their calendars. For cricket lovers and telly enthusiasts alike, this is the telly equivalent of a six over long-off—clean, satisfying, and crowd-pleasing.
So, whether you’re in it for the masala or the mental gymnastics, tune in come July 2026. Because Dada’s got the mic, and you can bet your last rasgulla he’s going to knock it for six.
Telly’s never looked so majestic. Watch this space.
