The Shillong Literary Festival 2024, held on November 18-19 at Ward’s Lake, will feature renowned authors Shobhaa De and Jerry Pinto. This two-day event will showcase both acclaimed national writers and local talent, including the launch of Kynpham Sing Nongkynrih’s latest books, offering an inspiring weekend for literary enthusiasts.
The upcoming Shillong Literary Festival is set to bring a breath of fresh air to the serene hills, as book lovers and wordsmiths prepare to gather by the picturesque Ward’s Lake on November 18-19. The two-day extravaganza promises a literary feast with the presence of acclaimed authors, including the iconic Shobhaa De and the ever-charming Jerry Pinto, who are sure to add their signature flair to the proceedings.
Tourism Minister Paul Lyngdoh, brimming with enthusiasm, confirmed the star-studded lineup, remarking, “We’ve got confirmation from literary greats like Shobhaa De and Jerry Pinto, who will grace this year’s LitFest.” One could practically feel the air crackling with excitement – after all, it’s not every day that such towering figures of Indian literature pop by for a chat.
But it’s not just the big names from outside the state that are creating a stir. The festival will also celebrate homegrown talent, with the launch of celebrated poet and author Kynpham Sing Nongkynrih’s latest works. “This will be a fantastic opportunity to shine a spotlight on our very own Meghalaya writers, giving them a platform to reach a wider audience,” Lyngdoh added. One might say the local literary scene is about to get a shot in the arm, and about time too!
There’s something about Shillong’s misty charm that seems to invite a love of literature, and this LitFest will be no exception. Imagine, if you will, a weekend spent lounging by Ward’s Lake, soaking up words, thoughts, and ideas from some of the sharpest pens around. Add to that the likelihood of running into a few of your literary idols, and it’s shaping up to be the sort of weekend that could very well inspire the next great novel.
In true festival spirit, we expect plenty of literary banter, impromptu discussions, and more than a few amusing anecdotes to spill out during the various sessions of the Shillong Literary Festival. If there’s one thing we can be certain of, it’s that both Shobhaa De and Jerry Pinto will have plenty of sharp-witted stories to tell – and who knows, perhaps a few cheeky digs at the modern world, in the way only they can manage.
So, dear readers, if you’re in or around Shillong, or fancy a literary escape, do yourself a favour and make your way to this little gem of a festival. And if you can’t make it, well, don’t be too chuffed – there’s always next year, with the added bonus that you’ll have an extra 12 months to polish up your own manuscript. After all, with a festival like this, inspiration will surely be in the air!
