The West Bengal Junior Doctors’ Front well meet the senior doctors online today at 7 PM. They unite to demand justice, safety, and infrastructure improvements in healthcare.

It has been more than two months since the junior doctors of West Bengal took to the streets, and they are still as determined as ever to secure justice for their fellow victim. Their demands for improved safety in hospitals and better infrastructure are echoing through the corridors of the medical community. With protests, rallies, two strikes, and now an ‘indefinite hunger strike,’ these young medics are making their voices heard louder than a kettle boiling on the hob.Senior doctors have rallied around their junior counterparts, showing unwavering support throughout the protests. This camaraderie is reminiscent of the classic Calcutta spirit of “we’re all in this together,” even if it does mean a bit of a chinwag over a cuppa about their concerns. Now, as the junior doctors look to refine their strategy for getting their demands met, they are inviting their more seasoned colleagues to join the discussion.

Today evening at 7 PM, the West Bengal Junior Doctors’ Front is set to host an online meeting with senior doctors. Invitations have already been sent out via email, and the agenda is clear: discuss how to tackle their demands for safety and infrastructure improvements head-on. The junior doctors have extended their olive branch to various organisations, including the Indian Medical Association and the Joint Platform of Doctors, ensuring that the call for action is as inclusive as a Sunday roast.

Since the commencement of their hunger strike on October 5, several junior doctors have succumbed to illness, leading to hospital admissions. It’s a tough situation, and they’ve made sure to mention it in their correspondence with the seniors, writing, “We can see the government’s failure to meet our ten-point demands. In light of this, we urgently invite you to an online meeting.” Talk about cutting to the chase!

The urgency of the meeting is underscored by the desire to find joint action steps that align with their ongoing struggle. After all, when it comes to fighting for essential reforms, a united front can be as powerful as a good old filter coffee on an exam night— strong and invigorating!

As the junior doctors continue to brave the elements in their fight for justice, one can only hope that their unwavering spirit and the support from their senior colleagues will bring about the change they so desperately need. In a world where the NHS is often referred to as a national treasure, it’s high time everyone rolls up their sleeves and pitches in to make sure it doesn’t fall to pieces. Let’s keep our fingers crossed that this meeting will pave the way for a brighter, safer future for all medical professionals in the region.
