Hello readers! Buckle up, because I’ve got a cracking bit of news from Odisha that simply can’t be swept under the rug. It’s one of those “hold onto your hat” moments, so here it goes. Two talented young chaps from Odisha have done the state proud, bagging prestigious accolades at none other than the 47th World Skills Competition in France. Yes, you heard that right – France! Let’s dive in, shall we?
At this grand international shindig, Chief Minister Shri Mohan Majhi was over the moon as he showered congratulations upon Shri Amaresh Kumar Sahu and Shri Gedela Akhil for their stellar achievements. The competition, which took place from 10th to 15th September 2024 in Lyon, saw our lads outclassing the competition and raising the bar for India, and specifically for Odisha, on the global stage.
Now, for the juicy details: Shri Sahu won a highly sought-after Bronze Medal in Renewable Energy – yes, he’s got a bit of a spark, that one – while Shri Akhil, not one to be left in the lurch, earned the Medallion for Excellence in Water Technology. Talk about making waves! These gongs are no small potatoes, mind you, and their accomplishments have left the entire state bursting with pride.
In his congratulatory message, Chief Minister Shri Majhi, full of beans, said, “The accomplishments of our skilled youth at the WorldSkills Competition are a source of immense pride for Odisha. Their success exemplifies the state’s commitment to nurturing young talent and developing skills that meet global standards.” Well, if that doesn’t make you puff your chest out a bit, I don’t know what will. The good CM went on to tip his hat to the institutions that had a hand in shaping these fine lads, including the World Skill Center, CTTC, and CV Raman Global University. And let’s be honest, a pat on the back was well deserved all round.
Now, a little more about these two stars of the show. Shri Amaresh Kumar Sahu, hailing from Deogarh District, is currently knee-deep in a Diploma in Mechatronics at the Central Tool Room & Training Centre (CTTC) in Bhubaneswar. Meanwhile, Shri Gedela Akhil is pursuing his BTech in Civil Engineering at CV Raman Global University. So, clearly, these aren’t just any old punters; they’re the crème de la crème of young talent, poised to make a splash in their respective fields.
For those not in the know, the WorldSkills Competition is the biggest of its kind, bringing together participants from over 80 countries, all battling it out across various sectors – everything from manufacturing to technology to services. It’s basically the Olympics of skills, minus the lycra. The 47th edition saw 15 out of 60 Indian participants hailing from Odisha, underscoring the state’s growing reputation as a leader in the global skills game.
Getting into this competition is no walk in the park, mind you. These lads didn’t just stroll in; they had to pass a gruelling three-tier evaluation before they could represent the nation. Odisha’s World Skill Center played a blinder in mentoring these participants, providing the training and support that helped them shine on the international stage.
Shri Sahu received top-notch training from experts in Vietnam, while Shri Akhil was under the watchful eye of a specialist from South Africa. Clearly, it was a bit of a globe-trotting affair, and these chaps took it all in their stride.
In the end, it’s not just about the shiny medals, though they do look rather fetching. It’s about what these achievements mean for Odisha and its place in the world. The state is fast becoming a hub of talent and innovation, a veritable beacon of excellence in skill development. So, hats off to these remarkable individuals – they’ve set the bar high and left us all with a lot to be proud of.
And there you have it – two lads from Odisha have taken on the world and come back with more than just fond memories and a bit of French cheese. It’s a milestone moment, and I, for one, can’t wait to see what they’ll do next. Here’s to Amaresh and Akhil, our local legends on a global stage!
Cheers!
