Nagaland ’s New Dawn in Music and Arts
A devoted foodie with keen interest in wild life, music,…
Nagaland has a rich musical heritage and now with the inauguration of the Centre of Excellence for Music and Arts (CEMA) in Kohima a new milestone has been achieved. With AR Rahman’s mentorship and world-class facilities, this initiative promises to amplify Nagaland’s artistic brilliance on the global stage.
Nagaland is a place that is close to my heart. I have heard stories from my mother about Nagaland since childhood, as Dadu was posted there as the chief engineer. When I heard the news that a Centre of Excellence for Music and Arts (CEMA) was inaugurated in Kohima recently, I had to share the news as music is an art that I cherish besides writing.
AR Rahman, along with other officials was present during the inauguration of this state-of-the-art facility. Nagaland which already has a rich history of musical talents and now with such a musical facility around, the state would be able to nurture and showcase the artistic brilliance on both traditional and contemporary fronts.
The facility is established under the aegis of the Task Force for Music and Arts (TaFMA), and aims to place Nagaland on a global map as a hub for music and arts. It has recording studios, auditoriums, conference rooms, dormitories, and a terrace that offers panoramic views of Kohima.
Turning Vision into Reality
If you remember the year 2004 was declared as the Year of Youth Empowerment in Nagaland which led to the establishment of music schools in villages and churches across the state. And today, those humble beginnings have transformed into a cultural renaissance in the state.
AR Rahman: A Maestro’s Ode
AR Rahman, sharing his admiration for Nagaland’s cultural vibrancy, described the region as a wellspring of peace and creativity. “This land inspires me,” he said, expressing his excitement about mentoring young musicians and guiding them toward international recognition.
A Crescendo of Promise
With the new facility striking all the right chords, Nagaland is poised to become a symphony of artistic expression. The hills of Kohima, already rich in tradition and talent, are set to echo with melodies that resonate far beyond the state’s borders. As AR Rahman put it, this is only the beginning of a journey that promises to make the world stop and listen.
From recording studios to the panoramic terrace that invites reflection and inspiration, CEMA is a stage not just for performances but for dreams waiting to soar. The world, it seems, is about to hear a lot more from Nagaland. And what a tune it will be!
