Chaos

Experience the chaotic charm of a household filled with mischievous Cockatiels, budgies, and finches. From daring escapes to heartfelt moments, discover how these feathered siblings turn ordinary evenings into one with chaos.

It was just an ordinary evening until I glanced up, and what I saw nearly made my jaw hit the floor. Oh, let me recount yet another chaos that we narrowly averted that evening. I was perched at my study table, absorbed in a book borrowed from the school library. Suddenly, a strange sound broke my concentration, I looked up and was utterly shocked.

You see, my study gives me a clear view of the living room, so after I recovered from the initial shock, I looked again and realised that the chaos was not my imagination but it was absolutely real. I rushed towards the living room to find my father, desperately trying to handle the situation. He was calling Chhoti in the sweetest voice he could muster: “CHHOTI! CHHOTI! Come back!”

For a moment, I was speechless, desperately trying to comprehend the situation. But then it struck me that I had to do something. I looked at the window, which, thankfully, was closed. My attention then shifted to my father, who was still trying to manage the chaos. At last, after what felt like an eternity, he succeeded in catching Chhoti, and we all were relieved.

But relief was short-lived. It seemed fate wasn’t done with us yet, as I suddenly noticed Pilu perched above my head, adding to the pandemonium. Clutching my pen in my right hand, I reached up with my left and grabbed Pilu’s tail. Pilu let out a startled squawk, “Murch murch!” as I carefully lowered her to the floor.

“Oh, good heavens!” my mother exclaimed as she entered the living room, taking in the spectacle. “You must have left the cage door open,” she accused my father.

“No, I didn’t,” he protested. But as we turned towards the cage, there it was—the door, it was open. Thankfully, Kittu and Bittu were still safely inside, and Milu was there too inside the cage. My mother hurried to shut the door, and after much ado, we managed to get everyone back inside, narrowly averting total disaster.

Such commotion is rather common in our household, thanks to my father’s frequent lapses in securing the cage. Just the other day, my mother went to bid the birds goodnight, only to discover, to her horror, that one of them was missing! Within seconds, the house was filled with tension as a frantic search started. Finally, I spotted the her and announced, “She’s behind the inverter!”

My father sprang into action and caught Chhoti. These little incidents often disrupt our evenings, and by the time we had everyone safely inside and went off to sleep, it was already 1 a.m.

Now, you might be wondering—who exactly are Chhoti, Pilu, Milu, and the rest of the them? Let me introduce them. Pilu, Milu, Chhoti, Gogo, and Spiky are our Cockatiels. Kittu and Bittu are budgies, while Golu and Shalu are adorable little finches.

Pilu is my absolute favourite. Whenever she’s out of the cage, she flutters straight to my mum and delights in playing with her necklace. Milu is the bold one, and Spiky—well, she’s Milu’s polar opposite. Chhoti and Gogo are siblings. Chhoti is the mischievous one, always spreading her wings and teasing Gogo with cheeky noises. Gogo, on the other hand, is the serious and unflappable sort.

As for Kittu, Bittu, Golu, and Shalu, they’re the innocent darlings of the family. Golu and Shalu, in particular, have a special bond with my mother, they only respond to her, and she’s the only one who truly understands them.

They are not just our pets; they are like my siblings. We care for them as we would care for any other member of the family, we give them medicine when they’re unwell. Despite the occasional drama, we are, without a doubt, the happiest family in the world.
