However today I share with my readers the fascinating story of a man whose contributions to the city of joy remain unmatched. Be it the iconic Howrah Bridge, or be it Victoria Memorial, or be it the Garden Reach Ship Builder. However, this man’s story is less sung off and remains unnoticed by many. This man is none other than Rajendra Nath Mookerjee.
Sir Rajendra Nath Mookerjee’s life is a testament to resilience, innovation, and philanthropy. Raised by his mother after the early loss of his father, Mookerjee’s journey from humble beginnings to becoming a pioneer in engineering, business, and societal development is both inspiring and remarkable.
Born into a family touched by tragedy, Mookerjee’s formative years were marked by hardship. However, his resilience and determination propelled him towards academic excellence. He pursued engineering studies at what is now the Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology, Shibpur, honing his skills and laying the groundwork for his future endeavors.

Alongside Sir Thomas Acquin Martin, he founded Martin & Co., contributing significantly to the success of Bengal Iron at Kulti.
