Madhyamik 2025: Ishani & the A+ Generation

The West Bengal Madhyamik Results 2025 are out, with a pass percentage of 86.56%! Meet Ishani Chakraborty — the highest-ranked girl and third overall — whose inspiring story of perseverance and passion is winning hearts across Bengal

The West Bengal Board of Secondary Education (WBBSE) has declared the Madhyamik (Class 10) results for 2025, and the numbers are looking chipper indeed! The results, released today, 2nd May, have brought smiles to countless households across the state, with a whopping 86.56% of students passing — a smidge better than last year’s already respectable figure of 86.31%.

This year’s results also tell a heartening tale of girl power. With 5,43,544 girls sitting the exams, outnumbering the boys (4,25,881), one might say the young ladies of Bengal have truly taken the bull by the horns. And leading this impressive charge is none other than Ishani Chakraborty from Kotulpur Saroj Basini Balika Vidyalaya — ranked third in the entire state and the highest-placed female candidate. That’s no small beans!

Young Ishani, a sprightly scholar with a head for numbers and a heart full of dreams, was understandably gobsmacked when she heard the news. “I could not believe it at first,” she told the press, sounding as thrilled as a cat in a fish shop. Her modesty aside, the entire town of Kotulpur is beaming with pride. And rightly so!

A total of 7,91,088 students have passed out of the 9,13,883 examinees, and the district-wise figures are just as brilliant. Purba Medinipur has taken the crown for the highest pass percentage, with Kalimpong, Kolkata, and Paschim Medinipur hot on its heels.

The crème de la crème, the top 5 scorers of Madhyamik 2025, deserve a proper round of applause:

  1. Adrita Sarkar (Raiganj Coronation High School) – 696 marks

  2. Anubhab Biswas (Ramakrishna Mission, Malda) & Soumya Pal (Vishnupur High School) – 694 marks

  3. Ishani Chakraborty693 marks

  4. MD Selim & Supratik Manna692 marks

  5. Sinchan Nandi, Chowdhury MD Asif, Diptajit Ghosh & Somtirtha Karan691 marks

Now that is what can be called academic firepower (of course better then those polluting fire crackers).

Ishani’s story, in particular, is the stuff of heartwarming novels. Daughter of two educators — her mother currently teaching at Kotulpur High School and her father formerly of the same school — she’s grown up steeped in an atmosphere of learning and encouragement. No wonder then, when the results came in, it was all misty eyes and proud grins at the Chakraborty household.

“There were tough days,” Ishani admits, “but my parents always stood by me.” Her father’s advice — “Work hard without expecting anything in return” — became her personal mantra. And by the look of things, it’s served her rather well, hasn’t it?

Interestingly, Ishani didn’t fall into the trap of joyless slogging. She tackled studies with purpose, took mindful breaks, and kept up with her artistic pursuits — especially drawing, which she says kept her grounded. Talk about having your cake and eating it too.

With her gaze firmly fixed on a career in Physics research, Ishani plans to take the Science stream in higher secondary. She hasn’t yet decided on a college, but her ambition is as clear as a bell — to remain in the academic world and, as she puts it, “contribute to the greater good.”

All in all, it’s been a banner year for the Madhyamik exams — not just for the numbers, but for the stories of grit, hope, and brilliance that have emerged from every corner of Bengal.

So here’s raising a toast (or a steaming cup of Darjeeling tea) to the students, teachers, and families who’ve worked their socks off. The results are in, and the future’s looking bright — brighter than a summer’s day on the Maidan.

Well done, Bengal. Top marks all round!
