Hiya Chatterjee Set to Shine ‘Mon Maaney Na’

Hiya Chatterjee, daughter of acclaimed actor Saswata Chatterjee, makes her acting debut in Rahool Mukherjee’s upcoming Bengali film Mon Maaney Na alongside Ritwik Bhowmik.

Well, would you believe it! It seems the acting gene runs thicker than a bowl of Shukto in the Chatterjee household. Saswata Chatterjee’s daughter, Hiya Chatterjee, is all set to make her big screen debut in Rahool Mukherjee’s upcoming film Mon Maaney Na. Yes, you heard it right – it’s curtains up and cue the spotlight for Hiya, and from the look of things, she’s not just dipping her toes in the water; she’s diving in headfirst.

Starring alongside her is Ritwik Bhowmik – a rather talented chap who, might I add, isn’t new to the cinematic dance floor. Ritwik previously wowed critics in Dhuusar (2019), bagging the Silver Award for Best Actor at the Queen Palm International Film Festival in the US. Clearly, the lad’s got chops.

Now, if the film’s teaser announcement is anything to go by – and let’s be honest, these days they’re often more dramatic than the film itself – we’re in for a proper emotional rollercoaster. As Studio Blotting Paper so poetically put it on Instagram:

“Shah Rukh Khan taught me how to love, so for me, pride is even dearer than love… Swear on love, there’ll be tears in your eyes and a gentle smile on your face. Guaranteed.”

Right. Pass the tissues and the popcorn, then.

Fans, naturally, are already losing the plot (in the best possible way). One eagle-eyed Instagrammer couldn’t hide their glee, exclaiming, “@hiyachatterjee03 finally.” Another was thrilled to see Ritwik back in a Bengali film: “So excited, welcome back to Bengal.” You can almost hear the collective ‘awww’ echoing through the internet.

Hiya’s mum, Mohua Chatterjee – probably equal parts proud parent and unofficial PR manager – chipped in with a congratulatory comment, presumably somewhere between beaming and sobbing into her morning cha.

The film’s musical soul comes courtesy of Nilayan Chatterjee, with cinematographer Modhura Palit behind the lens, and it features actor Soumya Mukherjee as well. The project is backed by Qosmos Films, GP Entertainment, Jairaddisson and, of course, Studio Blotting Paper – a name that sounds like it belongs in a Wes Anderson film or a Bengali detective novel.

As for the plot – well, it’s currently under tighter wraps than a Victoria sponge at a Flurys. But one thing’s for sure: Mon Maaney Na is shaping up to be quite the family-friendly affair – a proper outing where Granny can laugh, Mum can cry, and Uncle Subhojit can loudly explain the storyline halfway through the second act.

Hiya’s debut might be the talk of the town now, but give it a few months, and we might just be saying: “She is a star.”

So chuck on your nicest jumper, grab your loved ones, and head down to the cinema. Who knows? You might just fall in love – with love itself.
