Ekal Sangini, presented by Friends of Tribals Society (FTS) Mahila Samity and its youth wing, dazzled at Taj Bengal, Kolkata, with its third edition. The lifestyle exhibition featured over 50 luxury brands and eminent personalities, raising funds for the education of rural children through FTS’s Ekal Vidyalayas.

In a city known for its vibrant culture and bustling markets, the third edition of Ekal Sangini – a truly one-of-a-kind lifestyle exhibition – added a touch of splendour to the Taj Bengal today. Organised by the Friends of Tribals Society (FTS) Mahila Samity and its youth wing, this event wasn’t merely about fashion and luxury but rather a stylish step forward in a noble cause. FTS, one of the largest NGOs in India, has been quietly transforming lives since 1989, with 38 chapters spread across the country. And the Ekal Sangini exhibition, a fundraiser for the education of rural children, proved that doing good can indeed be done with flair.

The day began with much fanfare as actress and Mrs India International, Richa Sharma, took centre stage to inaugurate the Ekal Sangini. She was in good company, with Seema Taparia, the renowned matchmaker of Indian Matchmaking fame, lending her charm to the proceedings, while Alokananda Roy, the celebrated dance educationist, and Raajorshee De, director extraordinaire, added a dash of artistic elegance. The glitterati list didn’t end there – motivational speaker Naina More, luxury style curator Chikky Goenka, model Madhabilata Mitra, fashion designer Kommal Sood, and musician Gaurab Chatterjee (Gaboo) also graced the occasion, making it quite the star-studded affair.

Now, before you say, “Oh, just another posh exhibition,” let’s have a word from Mrs Pushpa Mundra, Vice President of Kolkata FTS, who reminded everyone what the real focus of the event was. “Our mission is to uplift communities through education. This exhibition not only showcases exquisite fashion but also raises funds for the bright futures of children in rural India,” she said. And rightly so. While guests marvelled at the glittering collections of jewellery, couture, and luxury goods, they were equally impressed by the knowledge that their purchases were making a real difference. You could say it was fashion with a heart – and a very big one at that.

Speaking of hearts, it’s no small feat to pull off an event of this scale. Hats off to the organising committee, which featured powerhouses like Pushpa Mundra, Pratibha Binani, and Nilam Patwari, among others. Their collective effort ensured that over 50 luxury brands participated, from Surana Jewellery to Ibiss, and the results were nothing short of spectacular. Visitors were spoilt for choice as they perused a jaw-dropping array of fashion and lifestyle products, courtesy of prestigious brands like KCC Gallery Store of Emami Group, Aarju Jain, and Laxmi Jewellers.

As for the purpose behind all the glitz, the funds raised will go towards supporting FTS’s Ekal Vidyalayas – one-teacher schools set up in remote villages across India, where they work wonders in educating children from underprivileged backgrounds. Think of it as giving rural India a much-needed boost, one luxury handbag at a time.

Corporate sponsors were, of course, not to be left out, with companies like Century Plyboards, Skipper Limited, and Anmol Industries stepping up to the plate to support the cause. Their generosity – along with that of many others – ensured that this year’s exhibition not only wowed the attendees but also left a lasting impact where it was most needed.

As the day drew to a close, and the last of the visitors made their way out, you could almost feel the sense of satisfaction in the air – and perhaps a bit of lightness in the wallets, too. But then again, what better excuse for a shopping spree than knowing your splurge is helping to change the world, one child at a time? As they say, every little helps – and this exhibition proved it in style.
