Dhubri and South Salmara Shine in HS Results (Assam)

In a stunning academic feat, Assam’s Dhubri and South Salmara districts have achieved a 100% pass rate in the 2025 Higher Secondary exams, defying expectations and showcasing untapped educational excellence.

It’s not every day you hear about academic brilliance bursting out from corners oft-forgotten on the national radar, but this year’s Higher Secondary Final Examination in Assam has offered up a right royal surprise. Two districts, Dhubri and South Salmara, have done what many thought as likely as hens’ teeth — registering a 100% pass rate in their respective streams. And no, before you ask, it wasn’t a typo.

At Sishu Pathshala School in Dhubri, the Science stream came out swinging. All 72 students who turned up for the exams cleared them with aplomb — 70 bagging first division and the remaining two landing in second. Not a bad innings at all. The school’s Principal, Sanjeev Kumar Saha, beamed with justifiable pride, putting it down to “the tireless efforts of the faculty”. Frankly, if ever there were a time for teachers to raise a cuppa (or something stronger), this would be it.

Now, don’t for a moment think South Salmara was content to let Dhubri hog the academic limelight. Oh no. Over in their patch, all 11 brave souls who took the plunge in the Commerce stream came out the other end unscathed. Two even strutted out with first division in hand, the rest managing a solid second — not too shabby for a stream that’s often treated like the soggy bottom of the academic bake.

Of course, while these schools were busy hitting it out of the park, the rest of the district results were a bit of a mixed bag — like biting into a til pitha and not knowing if it’s going to be sesame seeds.

Dhubri, in particular, pulled up its Science stream socks with a respectable 84.33% pass rate — just a smidge shy of the state average of 84.88%. With 1,105 students in first division, it was a result that could make any headmaster puff out their chest like a proud peacock. But alas, Arts and Commerce weren’t quite singing the same tune. The Arts stream wobbled through with 73.20%, well under the state average, while Commerce looked like it had misplaced its calculator altogether — clocking in at a rather anaemic 63.64%.

That said, Dhubri’s Vocational Studies students quietly got on with business, turning in a tidy 80% pass rate, leaving the state average of 68.55% eating their dust.

Meanwhile, South Salmara wasn’t having any of Dhubri’s academic mood swings. They held steady across the board. Science? 86.07% — tick. Arts? A well-rounded 77.85% — not too flashy, not too drab. All in all, the district’s performance was as steady as a metronome on a Sunday morning.

Now, let’s not get carried away. These aren’t just numbers to be bandied about over biscuits at the next tea break. They’re a reminder that in districts often associated more with flood maps and ferry routes than with flying marksheets, excellence is not only possible — it’s blooming well happening.

So hats off, mortarboards flung sky-high, and perhaps even a little bihu dance in the assembly halls — Dhubri and South Salmara, take a bow. The rest of the state might want to take notes. Literally.
