Zubeen Da nu Moribo Paare nay? (Can Zubeen da die?)
The answer is “No. Zubeen Garg cannot die.”Sounds so silly right? Yes, we fans have been either behaving silly or we are so ardently grief stricken that we do not even know how to express our grief.
Some of us have been howling and crying, some of us have been posting plethora of posts on social media, some of us have stopped smiling, some of us are shocked.
Why? Who is Zubeen Garg? Why are zillions of people grieving?
Alright, let me will tell you who is Zubeen Garg.
Zubeen Garg aka Zubeen Da is an “Emotion”. We grew up with his songs. Well, not just songs, we grew up with his charm. Yes, he is a charmer, he is a magician and above all “Zubeen Garg” is “Human”.
Why Human? Aah, so many episodes I had read and heard about Zubeen da. You know, in Assam we have segments of caste like “Baamun“, “Aahom“, “Kalita” etc. Baamun aka means Brahmin community wherein boys wear a sacred thread which is called “Logun” in Assamese.
Well Zubeen da was known as “Logun Nothoka Baamun” which means a guy from Brahmin community who does not wear a sacred thread. Zubeen Da’s answer to this “Moi Bamun nohoi. Mur kunu jaati nai, mur kunu dhormo nai, moi Maanuh“, which means “I have no religion,no cast creed. I am a Human. That’s it.”
There are innumerable episodes of Zubeen da that one book cannot accommodate all I have to write about Zubeen da, let alone few pages of a book. There is an episode I had read, where Zubeen da had gone to Gauhati Medical College to get some medicine. Over there, some unknown guy called Zubeen da and said “Oi toi Zubeen Paagla neki?” (Are you that crazy Zubeen?). Zubeen Da replied , “Hoi moi e paagla Zubeen“( Yes I am that crazy Zubeen). The man giggled and said , “Toi oo Paagla moioo Paagla.” (I am also crazy, you are also crazy). Zubeen da smiled and said “Hoi moioo paagla apunioo paagla.“(Alright I am also crazy, you are also crazy). It was a cold night. Zubeen took off his own jacket, made the man wear it and came home. That is Zubeen Garg.
Zubeen da is Crazy. Yes, Zubeen da is Crazy in winning hearts. Zubeen Da is crazy in standing up for his people. Crazy in giving and showering love. Crazy in making a world of people fall in love with him.
I was perhaps in Grade 3rd or 4th in school when Zubeen Da’s songs Maaya and Anamika were released. He was a rising star then. He had come to our small town to perform. I still remember, he had long wavy hair, he had donned a simple shirt and a maroon coloured pair of denim trousers. And I and my friends became his instant and forever fans. And then again, years later he came to our beautiful town again to perform. Like last time, even this time, I somehow shy to go ahead and meet him or get a picture clicked with him. He would have never said no. He is not a person who says no to his fans. And then again years later when he performed in a concert, I was there again singing and dancing, but I unnecessarily assumed what if he says no if I ask for a picture with him. He would have never said no. He is “Zubeen”. He does not know how to say No. He only knows to shower smiles, love and kindness.
Songs of Zubeen!!! Which genre of song do you want to listen? You want to listen to a song when you are in love , listen to ” I love you buli kolu moi..“, You want to visualise your love story with your significant other, listen to , “Mayabini Raatir Bukut, Dekha paalu tumaar sobi,“, You are heart broken, life has hurt you , listen to “Kar Porokh, Kaar uxa aaru kaar xubax,“, you want to dance to Bihu Songs, listen to “Kinu Sawonire saala muk o..“, You want to listen to folk songs listen to “Kanai Jai Re” by Zubeen.
You know what Assam is known for?
Assam is known for “One Horned Rhino”
Assam is known for “Tea”
And one priceless, grandiose, jewel Assam is known for is “Zubeen Garg”.
Zubeen and Assam are synonyms
Zubeen and Humane are synonyms
Zubeen and Kindness are synonyms
Zubeen is not just a singer. Zubeen is not just an actor. Zubeen is not just a music composer, director, producer, Zubeen is “Love”. Zubeen is “HeartBeat”, Zubeen is depiction of “Life”.
I will never use past tense for My Zubeen Garg because Zubeen can never be “past”. Zubeen is forever “Present”.
I had read somewhere the meaning of Zubeen. Zubeen means something that touches the sky. Zubeen means the finest one. Oh yes, Zubeen not only touched the zenith of the sky but he touched billions and zillions of hearts. Zubeen is ofcourse the finest jewel which is ever produced by the Universe.
O Zubeen da, you like to add English in between your Axomiya conversations, hence this is my tribute to you. Apunar Nisina kunu nai, aru kunu ketiyaoo hobo nuware. (There is no one like you. There can be no one like you.)
You know what Zubeen da, this is for you , “Paakhi loga mone kiyo baare baare ture kaaxoloi gusi jaai…” Zubeen da, eta dukh thaaki gol. Ebaru apunak xabotibo napalu” ( One regret in life. I could not hug you even once)
So what, I will continue hugging your voice, your songs. After All Zubeen Garg is forever alive. ❤❤❤. I love you Zubeen da. ❤❤❤
