Celebrate the 50th anniversary of Ramesh Sippy’s legendary Sholay with “Sholay 50,” a commemorative calendar featuring rare memorabilia, launched by Cactus stars Sidhu and Pota in a nostalgic tribute

The 1975 magnum opus Sholay, directed by Ramesh Sippy, remains an unparalleled milestone in Indian cinema. Driven by the “Masala Western” aesthetic and an impeccable screenplay by the legendary Salim-Javed duo, the film didn’t just break box-office records—it redefined the cultural fabric of a nation. From the terrifying villainy of Gabbar Singh to the unbreakable bond of Jai and Veeru, Sholay turned the dusty hills of Ramgarh into a temple of celluloid history.

To honor the upcoming 50th anniversary of this masterpiece, The Dreamers Music PR Agency, presented by Serum Group, has launched a special “Sholay 50” commemorative calendar.

A Rock-and-Roll Tribute to Jai and Veeru

The release ceremony featured a nostalgic surprise that bridged the gap between cinematic history and musical heritage. Sidhu and Pota, the lead vocalists of the iconic Bengali rock band Cactus—which has itself completed a stellar 30-year journey—stepped into the boots of Jai and Veeru.

In a scene mirroring the film’s opening, the duo performed the legendary anthem “Yeh Dosti” while perched on a sidecar motorcycle, accompanied by guitarist Aritra Mukherjee. The event later transitioned into a heartfelt discussion curated by noted presenter Debashis Bose, where Sidhu and Pota shared how the film influenced their own artistic journeys.

“It is a truly happy moment to be reimagined as Jai and Veeru for this special tribute. Sholay is more than a movie; it’s an emotion,” the duo remarked.

Inside the “Sholay 50” Calendar

Curated by Sudipta Chanda, the calendar is designed as a collector’s item for cinephiles. Rather than just promotional stills, it features a curated archive of the film’s 1975 ecosystem, including:

  • Original Memorabilia: Vintage newspaper advertisements, original film tickets, and LP record covers.

  • Behind-the-Scenes: Rare photographs of the cast and crew during the making of the film.

A Patronage of Culture

Sanjib Acharya, Chairman of the Serum Group, emphasized the importance of preserving such legacies: “Serum Group has always been a patron of refined cultural initiatives. Sholay still holds a deep fondness for all of us, and this calendar captures that timeless magic.”
