Heartbroken Samara Lama leaves Delhi forever—only to rise from betrayal and heartbreak to become a fierce divorce lawyer. Fate brings Karma back to her.
Samara Lama the bubbly ,petite ,friendliest girl from the North East according to her English Honours second year batch in Lady Shri Ram college was returning home to Gangtok and this time would be the last time for she had decided to leave for good .
Her boyfriend of two years Karma Gyatso had completely shattered her when he was caught with his pants down with another girl in his room.
Karma Gyatso that lanky, aloof good looking dude from Kurseong, had stared at her with those bewitching seemingly innocent dark brown eyes that had once won her heart but now it looked so fake infact evil as he tried to mumble some sort of an apology.
As for the poor naked girl Samara had nothing but pity for her for she knew how gullible she must have been to have been discovered by this boys girlfriend.
Without saying anything Samara had closed the door behind the two and made a hasty retreat to her hostel into the arms of her senior Pinky di, a fire brand sassy Bengali third year senior who had once warned her about her beau’s wandering eyes.
Between incoherent words and desperate sobs Pinky had patiently heard her out made her a cup of hot Complan and calmed her down like she always did.
She had just returned from her hometown Gangtok and was excited to surprise her beloved boyfriend and was shocked to have seen betrayal enjoying passionate grinding so mindless they had even bothered to lock the door, or maybe it was destiny trying to knock some sense into this foolish girl .
The twenty year old, chubby yet pretty Samara had been a geek all her life, all throughout her schooling in the strict environment of Holy Cross School, she had not even dared to look upon the opposite member of her opposite sex.
She grew up without any mingling with the boys as she was an introvert shy to the core and at the Freshers Welcome party organised organised by the north east college Students in Delhi, she had completely felt lost in the sea of youths all outgoing and talkative .
She never saw her own value, she considered herself as a chubby plain girl and so here she was at a corner feeling completely like a weirdo.
And it was then that this tall, dark senior from Hindu College had found himself drawn to this quiet, shy yet adorable fresher.
” Hey bahini( younger sister ) am Karma Gyatso, I am from Kurseong, passed out from St Paul’s Darjeeling, so nice bumping into you,” and he had grabbed her small child like hand into his gigantic ones and had danced with her throughout the evening much to her awkward displeasure in the beginning and absolute comfort towards the end of it.
Karma had then relentlessly pursued Samara who loved reading novels and writing poems in her free time, after saying no several times but due to the tenacious attempts coupled by his amiable humour she had finally given in to his boyish charms.
Karma was so like her old man good looking, a charmer and an introvert yet Samara harboured a secret fear in her heart. She dreaded her boyfriend would leave her just like her father had abandoned her mother and her five years back to a young nurse who had seduced her loving father enough to forget her and her loyal mother.
She feared people would leave her so she used to go out of her way to be nice and proper and good so the others would stay but then who did stay with such a desperate girl well certainly not a testosterone driven young college kid like her boyfriend.
That day when she found his betrayal in action, she felt numb, hollow as she had walked all the way back to her hostel in a daze.
She called her parents back home sobbing out like a five year old who had been denied her favourite candy.
The only daughter of her single parent, her dad Dr Raj Lama, didn’t even think twice sending her extra money for her train journey home. Her old man thought sending her money would buy her affections but it never did .
He had lost her respect and long time back when in the dead of night she had walked into the kitchen to see her mother sobbing on the kitchen floor.
She never told anyone how that made her feel, and today she was glad her dad wasn’t her father he was just a money vending machine.
From SNT stand in Siliguri she booked a seat in a shared cab and was quite relieved to get a window seat.
Crossing the hot plains and now to the cooler hills she looked outside her window at the raging Teesta river,( the Teesta was free to move, no dams back that time).
The Teesta looked wild and furious and savagely gorgeous she looked at the river, closed her eyes and prayed that no one may harm her spirit, alas!
Maybe her prayers worked the opposite for in the coming years the might Teesta no longer danced mighty as she was brought to her knees by technology, the modern day Dushashan and the Teesta at present looks as sad and helpless like Draupadi might have felt when she was humiliated and not a single one of her loved ones did anything to stop her being harassed by the evil Kauravas.
But that day when young Samara was returning from college broken hearted and crying bitterly Teesta was free and Samara lost herself watching the pristine waters remapping against the shore as her cab drove on and she kept on admiring the fiery Teesta.
She wished to be one with her wild waves and she imagined how comfortable and snug her arms would feel caressing.
Then suddenly her thoughts went to her mother of how she had been there for her when her father had chosen to leave them to be with his lover.
Then just like that she was pulled back into her senses, and talked out aloud too,”Stupid ,selfish Samara what about dad you idiot what about mom you ungrateful stupid idiot”
Though she was pursuing her graduation as an English Hons student she then decided to change her career and applied for admission in the law college at Gangtok itself
Today year 2025
As she was busy going through an important divorce case, suddenly something caught her eyes, the door of her chamber opened.
” May I come in madame?”, that familiar husky voice, Samara turned around her chair and faced her new client.
Karma Gyatso swallowed his pride and almost begged Samara who was now the leading woman lawyer who specialised in divorce cases,to help him out ,his wife Arpana Rai had made life hell for him.
She smiled and said,”Don’t worry Mr Karma Gyatso as long as you are truthful to me now I can save your but you have to be completely honest with me this time, will you be able to do that?”
Karma turned beetroot red and as he was feeling suffocated inside her chamber, the door opened and a medium height ,fair bespectacled handsome man entered .
Karma watched her and a pang of jealousy ran all through him when he saw her light brown eyes glow and shine like it used to do when she used to look into his eyes all those years ago.
“Have your tiffin Sammy I came in to tell you that,” uttered her caring loving husband.
