History of 12th May 1459. Jodhpur which is also known as Sun City, was founded by Rao Jodha in the state of Rajasthan on this day. Jodhpur is located on the eastern edge of the Thar Desert and is known for its magnificent forts, palaces, and temples.
The foundation of Jodhpur was a significant event in the history of Rajasthan. The city served as the capital of the Marwar Kingdom, which was one of the most powerful Rajputana states. Jodhpur was strategically located on the trade route between Delhi and Gujarat, which made it an important center of trade and commerce.
Today, Jodhpur is a popular tourist destination, attracting visitors from all over the world who come to marvel at its stunning architecture, rich history, and vibrant culture. Some of the city’s most famous landmarks include the majestic Mehrangarh Fort, Umaid Bhawan Palace, and Jaswant Thada, a beautiful white marble memorial.
On this day, we commemorate the founding of Jodhpur and celebrate the city’s enduring legacy as a center of Rajputana culture and history. And that brings me to my next story about Red Fort.
The Red Fort: A Timeless Icon of Mughal Architecture and Indian History
History of 12th May takes us to the year 1638 when Emperor Shah Jahan of the Mughal Empire commissioned the construction of the Red Fort at Shahjahanabad, which is now known as Delhi. The Red Fort, also known as Lal Qila, is a historic fort complex located in the center of Delhi and is considered one of the most iconic landmarks in India.
The construction of the Red Fort was completed in 1648 and it served as the residence of the Mughal emperors for nearly 200 years. The fort complex is known for its impressive architecture, which blends Persian, Indian, and European styles. The fort features numerous palaces, audience halls, and gardens, and is surrounded by a moat and massive walls.
Today, the Red Fort is a popular tourist attraction in Delhi and is also a UNESCO World Heritage site. It is known for its beautiful architecture, intricate carvings, and rich history. The fort is also famous for its role in India’s struggle for independence, as it was from here that the first Indian Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru, delivered his famous speech on the eve of Independence in 1947.
And finally my concluding story about the first woman to be appointed as a foreign ambassador to the United States.
