Sinha has some internationally recognized pageant titles like Mrs. Asia Grand Universe 2019, Mrs India Asia Style Icon 2019, Best Performer of Asia Grand Universe International Philippines 2019 and Mrs. India Universe Earth 2018 to her credit.
Says she, “My film is a tribute to the unsung heroes in our daily life, like the hand rickshaw pullers who serve our society but get no recognition. Hand rickshaws are a part of our culture in Kolkata and one can’t imagine the City of Joy without them.”
Sinha who comes from the world of fashion makes her debut in Mukherjee’s film, which has been selected for film festivals at Melbourne and Madrid, Spain. The film which went on floor in 2019 was completed this year and is currently on the festival circuit.
Sinha’s association with the film is a natural progression of her work that she does with NGOs. She contributes her time to Angle Nabajiban Welfare Society which works for orphans, needy pregnant women and the elderly.
She also runs a pre-school in Burdwan, her hometown.
Sinha distributed blankets, sanitizers and masks among a number of hand rickshaw pullers at Mullick bazar area in the city. She explains that, “With the onset of winter, it is difficult for these rickshawalas to manage asthey mostly live on footpaths, so I thought giving some blankets would help and, as the pandemic is also affecting our lives, we also distributed hand sanitizers and masks.”
Speaking about her role in the film, Sinha recalls “Ram Kamal reading and enacting the scenes” with the actors. “I was very nervous but he made everyone so comfortable that one didn’t even realise when he had extracted the performances.”
Produced under the banner of Assorted Motion Pictures and GeeDee Films Rickshawala has been shot by MadhuraPalit who was awarded last year at Cannes Film Festival last year.
