The assassination of Martin Luther King Jr.
April 4th History takes us to the year 1968. The world lost one of its most prominent civil rights activists, Martin Luther King Jr. He was assassinated by James Earl Ray while standing on the balcony of the Lorraine Motel in Memphis, Tennessee.
King was in Memphis to support the city’s striking sanitation workers, who were protesting poor working conditions and low wages. He had delivered a powerful speech the night before, famously saying, “I’ve been to the mountaintop…I’ve seen the Promised Land.” Little did he know that this would be his last public address.
The assassination of Martin Luther King Jr. sent shockwaves throughout the world, sparking riots and protests in many American cities. King’s death was a tremendous loss to the civil rights movement, but his legacy and message continue to inspire people to this day.
King’s work toward racial equality and social justice was far from over at the time of his death, and his murder served as a tragic reminder of the ongoing struggle for civil rights in the United States. His life and death have become an integral part of American history and continue to be studied and celebrated around the world.
Micro’s Day Out
On the positive side April 4th History, the year 1975 also was the date Microsoft was founded as a partnership between Bill Gates and Paul Allen. The company was created to develop and sell BASIC interpreters for the Altair 8800, a popular microcomputer of the time.
At the time of its founding, Microsoft was a small software company with just a handful of employees. However, with the release of the Altair BASIC interpreter, the company began to gain traction and its popularity grew rapidly.
Over the years, Microsoft would go on to become one of the most successful technology companies in the world, developing a wide range of software products and services that have become household names. The company’s success can be attributed in large part to its innovative approach to software development and its ability to anticipate and adapt to changing trends in the tech industry.
Today, Microsoft is known for its Windows operating system, Office productivity suite, Xbox gaming console, and cloud computing platform, among other products and services. The company continues to be a major player in the technology industry and is widely regarded as one of the most influential and innovative companies in the world.
The Battle of Kohima
4 April 1944, is perhaps one of the most important day in the history of Indian independence. It was on this day that ‘The Battle of Kohima’ commenced. This less sung-off battle recently found importance in England when this was voted ‘Britain’s Greatest Battle’ in the year 2013. But in India, this battle is the most significant one which eventually led to our freedom. I will share a complete story on this platform on the 8th of April.
