25th April History

25th April history comes with the latest news of the present day. In this episode, we share the significant event of the first solar battery and the first color television in India.

One of the most-read news is the arrest of separatist leader Amritpal Singh after a month-long chase. It is believed that the reason for this breakthrough may be the spotlight on his British wife Kirandeep who had been living in India. Kirandeep Kaur came to India a week before her wedding in February. Her visa expires in July. She was recently stopped at the Amritsar airport while trying to board a flight to London. You will find the details of this all over, but what you may not find is the events from 25th April history which I bring to you today.

By the power of the Sun

On April 25, 1954, scientists at Bell Labs, in New Jersey, made a significant breakthrough in the field of solar energy by creating the world’s first solar battery using silicon. The battery was only 6% efficient, but this achievement paved the way for the development of more efficient solar cells and panels.

The solar battery was created by Daryl Chapin, Calvin Fuller, and Gerald Pearson, who used silicon to produce a small device that converted sunlight directly into electricity. The device consisted of a thin layer of silicon placed on top of a layer of metal, with a wire connected to each layer. When the light hit the silicon layer, it caused electrons to flow through the wire and produce an electric current.

The invention of the silicon solar cell was a major step forward in the development of solar power. Before this, solar cells were made from materials such as selenium, which were much less efficient and expensive to produce. The new solar cell was much more efficient and less expensive, making it more practical for use in a range of applications.

Today, silicon solar cells are the most commonly used type of solar cell, and they are used in a wide range of applications, from powering small electronic devices to providing electricity for homes and businesses. The efficiency of solar cells has also improved significantly over the years, with some modern solar cells achieving efficiencies of over 20%. The development of solar power continues to be an important area of research and innovation, as the world seeks to reduce its reliance on fossil fuels and transition to more sustainable energy sources.

A Colorful New World

25th April history, the year 1982, history was made in Delhi as color broadcasting started on television for the first time. It was a momentous occasion, and Delhiites were thrilled to finally see the world in living color. No longer would their favorite movies and TV shows be confined to shades of gray and sepia!

As soon as the news of the color broadcasting spread, people rushed to buy new color TVs. After all, what’s the point of having color broadcasting if you can’t see it in all its vibrant glory? But for those who couldn’t afford a new TV, there was always the option of gathering at a friend’s or neighbor’s house to watch their favorite programs.

But with the advent of color broadcasting came a new problem: adjusting the color on the TV. Everyone had an opinion on what the “correct” color settings were, and it wasn’t uncommon to see family members arguing over whether the grass was supposed to be that green, or whether the sky was too blue.

And let’s not forget about the creative minds who took the opportunity to experiment with the new medium. Some households even started hosting “color TV parties,” where guests would gather to watch movies and TV shows while indulging in colorful snacks and drinks. It was a true feast for the senses!

In the end, the introduction of color broadcasting on television marked a new era for entertainment in Delhi. It allowed people to experience their favorite programs in a whole new way and added a touch of vibrancy to their lives. And although the debates over color settings may have caused a few arguments, they also brought people together in the name of colorful entertainment.
